Whilst all six Greenhouse Gas need to be included in your Greenhouse Gas assertion, the impact on the environment is compared to the impact of carbon dioxide known as "CO2-e" or “Carbon Dioxide Equivalence”. This is often shortened in common use to just “Carbon”. Firstly decide on the “Boundary” or geographic area that needs to be included in your calculations.
Then you’ll need to decide on the “Scope” of your Greenhouse Gas emissions:
Scope 1 – Direct emissions - Such as company vehicles, own power generation, co-generation of power
Scope 2 – Purchased energy emissions - Such as purchased electricity
Scope 3 – All other indirect emissions - Such as consumer use, recycling, employee travel to work, subcontractors and other emissions through the supply chain.
