In November 2009, Telarc SAI Ltd and the Electricity Commission (now the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority EECA) launched this quality scheme to lift the standard of motor rewinding in New Zealand. Workshops certified to the Telarc Motor Rewind Workshop Quality Code:2009 have demonstrated that they have the skills, equipment and processes in place to achieve high quality rewinding of three phase induction motors.

An audit in the United States found properly rewound motors performed as efficiently as new motors, but some fell below the manufacturer’s specification because of poor workmanship.

The code covers people skills, equipment and process requirements, and management systems. Once you have achieved certification, you can be confident that your workshop is one of the best in New Zealand.

BACKED BY THE ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND CONSERVATION AUTHORITY (EECA)

The EECA is continuing to encourage the adoption of Motor Rewind Workshop Quality Code:2009 by the motor rewind industry, because it protects and maintains the electrical efficiency of the New Zealand motor stock. Through direct communications and trade magazines, the EECA has been promoting the value of the code to motor users and the identity of motor rewinders certified to the code. The EECA also provides resources for motor users to develop sound motor repair/replacement policies that incorporate the use of motor rewinders certified to the code.
