The local carton manufacturing facility of AMCOR Cartons Australasia is gearing up for a new Telarc audit in the New Year, which is designed to assess the operation's environmental management systems.
"Like the ISO 9000 standards, becoming certified to the environmental ISO 14001 standard is a voluntary decision," says Nigel Harrison, Christchurch Operations Manager with AMCOR. "We've been certified to ISO 9001 for some time, which reflects our desire to verify that our management systems are fully compliant with internationally recognised standards".
"Our largest customer in the South Island is Cadbury and, naturally, they have stringent requirements in terms of zero contamination of the cartons into which their chocolate products are packed. We are working with Telarc to understand HACCP requirements and eventually gain accreditation in order to further strengthen our relationship with Cadbury and other major clients in the meat and seafood industries".
"Achieving certification to ISO 14001 is additional confirmation that we are aware of the environment, doing our best to minimise waste and maximise recycling. We are looking at joining the Zero Waste New Zealand Trust as a further step in this commitment to maximise the reuse of resources wherever possible."
